Carrie Hewlett

Hi, I’m Carrie 😊

I live in Bristol and have been writing in some form or other all my life. I guess I just love the idea of making things up! Not that I do that all the time I hasten to add – only when I get behind a keyboard and start tapping away.

My first pocket novel called ‘Still Waters’ was published in June 2022, with the lovely My Weekly at D.C. Thomson. And it has now been republished by Ulverscroft Linford Romance and is available at lending libraries. And my second pocket novel ‘Written in the Stars’, is now out with My Weekly D. C. Thomson. I’m also a member of the Romantic Novelists Association.

With my children’s stories it’s great fun to escape into a fantasy world where anything can happen. The world can be made of spun sugar, or aliens often visit just to have a cup of tea.  Animals talk to one another about their very human problems, and children can have wonderful adventures in the land of make-believe. It’s something I always used to do as a child; from making up stage plays to imagining the hall floor was a great ocean where my dolls had to escape from baddies – crazy, huh! But that’s what makes it fun.

I’ve written two children’s books so far, and it’s my ambition to get them both published.

I also write poetry which often appears in The People’s Friend and had verses published in greetings cards, and memento books.

My other love is writing short stories for women’s magazines. I’ve been lucky to get stories published here in the U.K. with The People’s Friend, The Weekly News, My Weekly, Take a Break Fiction Feast, Yours and Spirit & Destiny as well as Ireland’s Own, who have also published many of my children’s stories.

As well as writing, I love the theatre, especially musicals, and used to do a lot of amateur dramatics when I was younger. Who knows? Maybe one day I’ll tread the boards again as I love acting, singing and dancing. I’m also fascinated with the world of astrology so anything to do with the planets gets my attention. I’d call myself a fair-weather gardener (!) as I enjoy pottering in the garden in warmer weather and growing my own fruit and vegetables – nothing tastes nicer than homegrown as far as I’m concerned!

Having had stories published in magazines in Australia, Sweden, and South Africa. I feel very fortunate Lady Luck has smiled down on me 😊 May she long continue!
